Abstract

This work reflects about the situation of musical analysis in popular music. In this way, it reviews the view of analysis since the institutionalization of popular music studies, the growth of popular music careers at the tertiary/university level in Argentina and the need for specific musical studies, and proposes some lines developed by American academics for the rock/pop world that can be useful for other genres in Latin America. Finally, he mentions some examples of statistical analysis of the data obtained in musical analysis as a valuable method in the musical description of genres and styles.

Diego Madoery, La Plata National University

Diego Madoery es Profesor Titular de la cátedra “Folklore Musical Argentino”, perteneciente a la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata y de la cátedra “Historia de la Música Popular” del Instituto Superior de Música de la Universidad Nacional de Litoral. Egresó de la mencionada Facultad con los títulos de Profesor en Composición y Dirección Orquestal. Es Doctor de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, área Historia y Teoría de las Artes. Su tesis se tituló: “Charly García y la máquina de hacer música. El estilo musical en las canciones del período 1972-1996”. Publicó el libro Charly y la máquina de hacer música. Un viaje por el estilo musical de Charly García (1972-1996) en el año 2021 por la editorial Gourmet Musical. Trabaja desde el año 1996 como investigador en proyectos relacionados a la Música Popular.
