Weaving interconnections between the conception of idea and discourse in music, this essay reflects upon composing as a product from the intersection among society, academia, and culture. As a craft, it requires building technical knowledge for conceiving a discourse, for its transmission via documentation, and for its performance. The essay describes the cyclic nature of music, which emerges from socio-cultural stimuli, turns it into a singular product of the critical subject, and, finally, returns to the contingent contexts of its production as a new stimulus and influence. Finally, the paper presents a philosophical conception on music making by Bahian composer Fernando Cerqueira.
